SENDING HOPE for 2021 is a  community art project led by Friends of Highland Arts (FoHA),  a non-profit focused on arts and community in the Highland Park neighborhood of St. Paul, MN.  We are working in partnership with the Highland Business Association (HBA) to infuse our community with vibrant creativity and Hope for 2021.  We are asking you to send us original ART and we will display these works in the windows of participating businesses throughout the Highland Park neighborhood.

What’s the theme?

Our theme is ‘Sending Hope’  What does hope look like to you?  What messages of hope would you like to share with the world?  With your neighbors?  What are you hoping for in 2021 ?

What kind of ART?

We are accepting any original art as long as it meets the following criteria:

  • Minimum size of 4” x 6”

  • Maximum size of 5.5” x 8”

  • Maximum thickness of ½”

  • Maximum weight of .5 lb

  • Nothing fragile or hazardous (i.e. glass)

  • Art can be mailed in an envelope or sent like a postcard

  • Art should be suitable for all ages

If it meets the above parameters, we want it!  Paper, paint, yarn, you name it- we would love to include it in our show.

Get Creative!

Who can participate?

ANYONE!  From the youngest finger painters to the most master artisans, we welcome anyone who would like to share their work with us. You don’t even have to be from Highland Park - if you would like to share a message of hope with our neighborhood we would be delighted to include it in our project.

How do I participate?

Step 1.  Make ART! One, two, or more - there is no limit to the number of submissions and there are plenty of windows to decorate in Highland.

Step 2.  On the back of your ART please include:

- Title of your ART (if you have one)

- Artist’s Name (you may write ‘anonymous’ if you’d prefer not to share your name)

- Other Artist Information (like age, school, organization, etc.)

- Email Address, so we can tell you where your art will be displayed.

- If you do not want to share your email, that’s OK too!

Step 3.  MAIL ART  to us at:

Highland Business Association

790 Cleveland Avenue South

Suite 219

Saint Paul, MN 55116

DROP OFF OPTION:  While we prefer the ART mailed to us, if this will hinder your participation in the project, you may Drop Off your ART at 2095 Pinehurst Avenue.   A special mailbox will be located at this property to receive the ART.

When is this happening?

You can send us your original ART right now! Accepting art throughout winter and Spring.

When can we see the ART?

The Art will be installed in storefronts beginning JANUARY 24th, and displays will be added throughout the months of January and February.

If you provide your email address, we will contact you with information about where to find your Art. We plan to provide information at each window identifying the artist of each piece.  A virtual opening reception will be held via Zoom in February or March, date TBD.

Sending Hope will remain up throughout Spring into summer.

What will we do with the ART after the show?

Right now we plan to keep this work as a visual representation of the collective hopes of a community living through 2020. We personally hope to have more opportunities to share this work at some point in the future, but for now we will keep it safe after the exhibition has wrapped up.

***Please note***   By sending us work you are agreeing to donate it to the ‘Sending Hope for 2021’ collection which will be retained by Friends of Highland Arts (FoHA).  That said,  we understand if  you are a working artist and would like your original Art returned to you, we will do our best to do so.  Please indicate this preference on the back of your Art with contact information.

THANKS for Sharing your ART with our community!
